Chainsaw Man has taken the worlds of manga and anime by storm with its unique story of monstrous Devils and the Hunters who try to save humanity from their devastation. Fans of the series are easily familiar with its main cast, including Denji, Makima, Aki, and Power, but Chainsaw Man's supporting characters are just as intriguing.

One of those compelling but lesser-known characters is Quanxi, a respected Devil Hunter from China who appears in Chainsaw Man's Public Safety Saga. As both a Hunter and a Hybrid, Quanxi has powerful abilities and plays an important role in Chainsaw Man's story, and she's actually much stronger than most people think. While the majority of Chainsaw Man characters have a dark past, Quanxi is no exception.

Who is Quanxi in Chainsaw Man?

Quanxi is a human/devil hybrid revered as Chainsaw Man's First Devil Hunter, but she quickly became one of the manga's antagonists after her debut in the Public Safety Saga Arc. She's depicted as a tall woman with an eye patch over her right eye and light blonde hair that is often pulled back into a ponytail.

Quanxi's personality is often very calm and borderline emotionless, but the character does care deeply about her loved ones, especially those in her harem. It was Chainsaw Man's terrifying Santa Claus who referred to Quanxi as the First Devil Hunter, and the character's past work with the bureau seems even more likely given her closeness with fellow Public Safety Devil Hunter Kishibe.

The relationship between Quanxi and Kishibe goes back to when both characters were young, with Kishibe pursuing Quanxi, though she repeatedly rejected him. Nine years after they met, Quanxi came out to Kishibe, confiding in him that she's actually interested in girls. After that, Quanxi quit her job as a Devil Hunter and moved to China, where she started a harem of female Fiends.

Quanxi's Powerful Abilities in Chainsaw Man

Quanxi's calm and emotionless demeanor carries over to her fighting style, with the character often choosing to handle things as sensibly as possible. She is an extremely powerful character, and she's the only Hybrid in the dark manga series who maintains her superhuman strength even in her human form. Quanxi can cut through dozens of enemies when wielding her swords, and she's only stopped when her weapons end up destroyed by the force of her attacks.

Quanxi was able to behead three powerful Weapon Hybrids — even when one was transformed — in one swift and powerful attack. Quanxi's strength is only made more terrifying by her superhuman speed and reflexes, which allow her to seem near impossible to actually attack. She was capable of stopping a flying knife between her fingers, proving just how difficult it is to land a blow against her. As formidable a threat as Quanxi is while in her human form, her Devil form is even more terrifying.

Quanxi's Mysterious Hybrid Form, Explained

Quanxi is one of Chainsaw Man's powerful Devil Hybrids, but she often chooses to forego her Hybrid form and fight as a human instead. Most characters seem to think Quanxi is merely a human with remarkable strength, and they don't seem to realize her status as a Hybrid. Quanxi may be keeping her Hybrid status a secret, only using it when the situation is dire enough to warrant her transformation.

With how strong Quanxi is in her human form, transforming into the Bow Devil may not often be necessary. When Quanxi does choose to transform, she removes her eye patch and pulls an arrow out of her right eye socket. After this, arrows and spikes begin to emerge from her arms and head, her teeth sharpen and her arms turn into crossbows. Quanxi's crossbow arms appear to be effective at range and close combat, with her powerful arrows able to destroy her enemies swiftly and cleanly.

Quanxi's status as a Hybrid also makes her near immortal, coming back to life as long as someone pulls her arrow. The only way to kill her would be to destroy her Devil's heart. Because not many know that she's actually a Hybrid and not human, Quanxi manages to escape death multiple times in the series.

Quanxi's Role in the Public Safety Saga

Quanxi makes her manga debut in Chainsaw Man's Public Safety Saga during the International Assassins arc. She quickly makes her mark as one of the best villains in Chainsaw Man due to her calculated nature and cryptic past. After the Chinese military tasks her with capturing the Chainsaw Devil, Quanxi and her harem of Fiends head to Japan in pursuit of Denji.

After making her way through many Devil Hunters, Quanxi is confronted by Kishibe, who tries to recruit her to help him kill Makima. She declines his offer and a huge battle breaks out, quickly descending into Hell. There, the Darkness Devil cuts Quanxi and members of her harem into pieces before returning their body parts to Earth. One of Quanxi's surviving harem members then locates her head and triggers Quanxi's Hybrid Form, allowing her to regenerate and live.

Quanxi then makes a temporary alliance with Denji to get revenge on Santa Claus for murdering her friends. After Santa Claus is defeated, Quanxi swiftly decapitates Denji, but shortly after surrenders to Makima and is decapitated along with her fiends. It is later revealed that Makima revived Quanxi and brainwashed her, and Quanxi faces off once more against Denji — who is actually Pochita in disguise the second time around. At the end of their battle, Quanxi is defeated once more, decapitated in her fight against Pochita.

Quanxi's Resurrection in Chainsaw Man's Academy Saga

While fans wondered for some time after the Public Safety Saga whether she was actually dead or not, Quanxi recently returned in Ch. 143 of Chainsaw Man's Academy Saga. It was revealed that after Makima met her dreaded fate, Quanxi was revived and reverted to her personality before Makima's brainwashing.

Quanxi then rejoined Public Safety and has been working with Special Division 7 to protect Denji. Chainsaw Man's Academy Saga is ongoing, so it remains to be seen what further developments will happen with Quanxi's character. She has certainly had one of the more unique trajectories of the series, emerging as a terrifying threat and now seemingly fighting for good, almost the exact opposite of Makima.

When Will Quanxi Appear in Chainsaw Man's Anime?

Fans eager to see Quanxi's debut in the Chainsaw Man anime adaptation may be waiting some time before she and her harem of Fiends appear on their screen. The first 12 episodes of Chainsaw Man adapted the first 38 chapters of the manga, and Quanxi makes her debut in Ch. 54.

However, the upcoming movie Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc is likely to adapt chapters 40 - 52, meaning that Quanxi may make an appearance sometime early on in the anime's second season. With the movie yet to have an announced release date, Season 2 has yet to be confirmed, making it unlikely Quanxi will be featured in Chainsaw Man's anime anytime soon. However, fans are likely to see more of her in future chapters of the manga as it releases and the Academy Saga develops.
